Fir + Bark Inc. is seeking a K9 Wilderness Adventure Handler to join our team in Squamish, BC. This role focuses on structured off-leash wilderness pack hiking and dog handling, with opportunities for development into dog training responsibilities over time.
The position involves working in outdoor environments and managing groups of dogs in varying terrain and conditions. The successful candidate will support safe group management, structured handling, and daily operational tasks related to dog care services.
Main Duties
Lead structured off-leash pack hikes in wilderness and forest environments
Safely manage groups of dogs in high-distraction outdoor settings
Monitor dog behaviour and group dynamics during hikes
Support structured handling, routines, and basic training principles during daily activities
Conduct client meet-and-greet assessments for dog suitability in group settings
Transport dogs using company vehicles, including driving on forest service roads and rural terrain
Support pickup and drop-off of dogs within the Squamish area
Assist with client communication and basic administrative tasks
Support scheduling, organization, and supply management
Capture photo and video content for client updates and social media use
Participate in internal training and education related to canine behaviour, handling, and safety
Develop foundational skills in balanced dog training methods with opportunity for advancement
Employment Requirements Experience
Minimum 1–2 years of professional experience working with dogs
Experience with dogs displaying reactivity, anxiety, under-socialization, or high drive
Experience in structured group dog walking or pack management preferred
Experience conducting client interactions and dog assessments
Experience in basic training or behavioural handling techniques considered an asset
Experience in administrative or operational support in a service-based business considered an asset
Skills & Abilities
Ability to handle and manage multiple dogs safely in outdoor environments
Strong understanding of canine body language and behaviour
Ability to work independently in remote or wilderness settings
Comfortable driving in varying weather and road conditions
Strong communication and customer service skills
Physically able to hike for extended periods in all weather conditions
Organized and able to support scheduling and operational tasks
Coachable, reliable, and able to follow structured procedures
Other Requirements
Valid driver’s licence required
Experience driving larger vehicles or trucks is an asset
Canine First Aid certification is an asset
Willingness to participate in ongoing training and development
Work Environment
